January 6, 2014 update: Thanks to our friend Neil R in NY comes this wonderful picture below of Phil Ogden of Cleveland on the 3rd green in the championship match of the 1928 National Public Links at Cobb’s Creek (he lost to Carl Kauffmann of Pittsburgh). A neat cartoon of Kauffmann’s achievement appeared in the Public Ledger on August 5, 1928 is below that picture.
